Fundamentalism
From Extreme Fundamental Makeover:
Fundamentalism fascinates me. Its history, prominent figures, and influential events all spark my interest. Much of this is also due to the fact that I have my spiritual roots in fundamentalism. Many of us who are considered “young fundamentalists” still find our home within the ranks of what we consider to be historic fundamentalism . . . Our future together as fundamentalists is going to no doubt hinge upon our stances regarding the lordship debate, secondary separation, Calvinism, the KJV only nonsense, the infatuation with non-essentials, and growing our churches God’s way and based upon God’s Word and not upon pragmatic magic potions that produce immediate results but eternal confusion.
For some time I’ve avoided labeling myself as a “fundamentalist” because of the multiple negative connotations the word carries; the first obviously being a contemporary comparison with fanatical Islam, and others being more chronic problems within the evangelical fundamentalist movement, especially unbiblical Arminianism and artificial legalistic standards.
However, in its best sense, the term denotes all I want to be. I want every belief of mine, every action, my way of life, and the traditions I adhere to, to stem from and be in complete conformity to the Word of God. In this sense, I am and will always remain a “fundamentalist.”
