A song of praise

How excellent are your works, O God!

Your people see them and rejoice,
those who you have called from every nation, from every time;
the poor and the rich, the unknown and the great.

Out of the east you called Abraham,
and made of him a nation, Israel, your holy people;
From slavery in Egypt you delivered them.

You saw the horror of the wickedness of Canaan,
and gave them over to destruction at the hands of your people,
who received their land as a possession.

With great miracles you displayed your power.
This was to show your power and your sovereign mercy,
and your judgment of the wicked.

Those who by their sin and the temptation of devils
refuse to acknowledge you as king, are truly pitiful.
Their crafty arguments and cunning deceptions you put to scorn.

At Babel you mocked them,
confusing their languages and their people,
scattering them throughout the earth.

Yet now your words are proclaimed in every tongue,
for your judgment is tempered with mercy.
The children of your enemies find mercy at your hand.

How excellent are your works, O God!
Let all who know your name sing praise;
Let all the earth do you reverence.
